Professor Kenji Tomiki Print E-mail

Professor Kenji Tomiki (1900-1979). He began to learn Judo at the age of 10, and continued to practice the art for the rest of his life. Upon completing his elementary and secondary school studies, he received the two highest awards for both academic excellence and achievement in physical education. In 1923, Tomiki matriculated in the Economic Department of the Waseda University from which he graduated in 1927.During his college years, the young Kenji Tomiki met Dr. Jogoro Kano (the founder of Judo) and received personal instruction from him. Professor Tomiki's form of Aikido was thus influenced by Dr. Kano's philosophy and education - as well as master Ueshiba's mastery and knowledge of Aikido.
