Jujutsu Print E-mail

Jujutsu (jujitsu or jiu-jitsu) is a form of unarmed combat developed over several centuries in Japan by the warrior elite or samurai. It was designed as an unarmed killing art for use in battle, and was later modified for use by civil authorities to subdue and arrest criminals. The underlying purpose of jujutsu is to apply timing, leverage, flexibility and skill to overcome an opponent or opponents. Mastery can only be achieved by patient and persistent study of the basics of movement, throwing and falling. The devastating blows, strangles and breaks found in jujutsu result from a precise understanding of anatomy and motion.
