Breathing during techniques... 5 Months ago
This may sound like a silly question but how should one breathe??

What I mean is, when performing techniques either Kata, compliant practise or sparring should there be any breathing methods employed during the techniques.

e.g. Should one breath out when punching?
Should one try to breathe in when absorbing ones energy?
Should it just be breathing so you don't pass out?

I try to always maintain a deep breathing rhythm while training. But I have heard various idea's about 'Breath power'. I've read and been told about various points in which to breathe in and then out, for another e.g. you have attackers restraining you from each arm, could a deep breath in and sudden release while moving the body assist in some way?

What about the breathing out helping you relax more when performing a technique?

Should I even be looking into this or is it a waste of time?

Would appreciate all your views and advise

Peace

Breathing techniques are kind of important but different styles have a different take on them. Tae kwon do emphasizes using a kihap (exhalation) on most of the techniques in line drills and patterns. Often karate states that when you are doing a technique you are at your most vulnerable so if you kiai it hardens the muscles in your abdomen but also empties your lungs of air making it harder to wind you should you get hit whilst you are doing the technique. "Breathing techniques" i think is more what this thread should be called and maybe in the martial arts talk area because it is quite complicated and has a lot of different ways it can be looked at.

WT (at my level at least) doesn't really focus to heavilly on breathing techniques.

Just don't stop breathing
