OK, I know this isn't Martial Arts, but do you know any martial Artists who have the grace and control of the swan?

Beautiful.

Am typing while watching it.

Saw these guys when the state circus came to Leeds. Mainly focusing on Acrobatic stuff and more circus based shows than this. Still you just can argue with people who flip around like that

Cool Frogs

..... jesus that whole swan thing is immense. If all ballet was like this i'd be an avid fan. SHOULDER.... Christ thats ridiculous.

HEAD... fricking hell

Nice running commentary Tom.

I love the bit where the leading lady is upside down and using her legs to act the part of the swan flapping it's wings.
Her legs go what? 200 degrees?

Worth watching again to see what the main guy has to cope with.
The final move of the peice, he's supporting her whole bodyweight above his head with one hand.
The slow pirouette from one shoulder to the other and the turn on his head.
Unbelievable.
Very strong guy.

LOL....and Martial Arts peeps think they're tough.
This kicks ass!

We did some work with some Shaolin guys down in London.
(We have it all on film so hopefully one day it will see the light of day!)

There biggest problem was finding a training hall where they wouldnt hit the roof.

Amazing stuff

I went to see these perform about 18 months ago and some of the feats they performed were quite amazing.

You can read my review of the event here: http://www.martialedge.net/reviews/events/the-chinese-state-circus-feat.-wushu-warriors/

Amazing. The Chinese State allow them train and be educated at the same time so this is really all they do. Takes tremedous dedication and discipline, all the attributes gained from Kung Fu. Excellent!

It is truely amazing...
A example of what humans could achieve with dedication...

Trouble is alot of ballet people suffer with real bad joints later on in life and the toes become arthritic due to the way they balance on tip toes..

The girls are also incredibly light so picking them up isn't hard.... balancing them like that on their head is of course and I could not do it like that no sir...

I wonder if the chinese ballet people like this suffer the same way as the European/Western people do??

Obviously age takes it toll but I wonder how the more acrobatic MA cope with aging? As there is alot of reports about gymnasts and ballet dancers have serious joint issues etc...

This may not be combat but the training to feel balance and conditioning of the body of these people is no different really to MA except they dont hit eachother...

I would actually go see this... look awesome.

Anybody been watching the TV program about how these kids are trained.

It's awful and cruel.

Yes, I did. I wrote a piece about it expressing my rather frank views about the insipid bullying that was going on.

What really got me was the young 8 year old boy at the end who had to endure waves of verbal abuse not just from his trainers but his parents as well. It was a clever piece of film making as it made watching his performance at the end somewhat bitter.

The deaf parents?
Yes, that's what I saw too.
It takes the shine of the show and it's why I don't go and see circuses any more.

There have been many reports of cruelty such as this going on in the build up to the olympics, I remember one journalist saying he had seen a young girl gymnast being beaten for messing up a form. Quite distressing, but perhaps the Chinese just have a generally different mentality one things like this than us here in the West? Perhaps this kind of discipline is more acceptable in Chinese society? In more extreme ways it follows on from that Kung Fu student who was beaten to death recently.

On a lighter note, did anybody watch the opening ceremony yesterday? Regardless of your feelings on the Chinese government and the current olympic games, it was truly breathtaking.

It certainly was and I can't see how that can be topped by us in 2012.

For sure.
I'm just glad it's not my kid.
