"Bumping" or "TTT" (to the top) is just a way of resurrecting older topics.

As you travel to the mountain, there may be people ahead of you. You may pass some of these people on the way, and some of them may pass you. You are all going to the same place, so it is as well to be civil to each other on the journey!

Good luck on your journey, I hope that our paths cross, and we may travel together for a time!

Yep Kung Fu or Gung Fu literally means all of the above but is a general term for CMA. I agree with steering clear of the term Wu Su or Wu shu as this is the generic term for Performance Martial Arts as terms by the Communist government at the time.

Mule- Monty Python, absolute pure Class my man. Respec!!!!

I love that Monty Python sketch (no you don't!).

KungFu has become a term on it's own. More commonly people refer it to the traditional Chinese boxing arts, and armed chinese martial arts, but not in reference to other elements of Chinese martial arts, like chinese grappling 'shaui chiao', breathing exercises 'Qi gong' and TaiJiQuan, which falls into it's own category.

WuShu is also considered a seperate term to Kungfu. Even though the direct translations are similar in description of what it relates to, the term WuShu is generally used to describe the Form displays used as a modern standardisation of all chinese boxing and armed arts.

SanShou/SanDa is also a seperate term which is sometimes incorporated into any of the above, or a stand alone school that just is sanshou.

The International Kungfu Federation is an international governing body of the national and international kungfu and taichi organizations in the world.

The purpose of organizing an international governing body for kungfu and taichi is to propagate worldwide traditional kung fu tenets and spirit.

The IKF promotes the traditional kungfu and taichi worldwide as a unique team with unique rules and seeks to join the Olympic Games.

The IKF seeks a unity, where all traditional kungfu and taichi styles are free from any form of prejudice.

All the traditional kungfu and taichi organizations must be registered in the IKF and constitute their respective statutes in strict conformity with the principles of the IKF Rules and Regulations.

The goal of the International Kung Fu Federation is to protect the rights of the kungfu and taichi organizations, seek their coordination and create peace and friendship.

The IKF welcomes all kungfu and taichi masters to unity and seeks their cooperation in the international events, world and continental competitions.

The IKF promotes the principles of traditional kungfu, its philosophy, zen, development of techniques and ranking certification.

The IKF observes the Olympic Movement Anti-Doping Code (“OMADC”) as prescribed by the IOC and other anti-doping codes relevant in preserving the intrinsic value of the spirit of sport.

The IKF shall consult with and integrate, if necessary, the best practices and models of the IOC and other International Federations (“IFs”) of the Olympic Movement, and other Organizations with regard to the administration of the sport of kungfu.

The Rules and Regulations of the IKF is the fundamental and universal document upon which the administration of the sport of kungfu is based.

John,
How do you intend to get IKF to join the Olympic Games when IWuF (recognised as an Olympic sport by IOC) cannot after decades of effort? And what does this have to do with the definition of kungfu?

Funny how you get spam from somebody representing some international 'Kung Fu' body, who still doesn't get what 'Kung Fu' means, spamming a thread about what 'Kung Fu' means. lol

I think I must be getting too old for all this.
Time for my cave in the Tibetan mountains methinks.

Huh. Once upon a time I was the National Chairman for the AAU Chinese Martial Arts Division, which became the largest kung-fu organization in the U.S. I made contact with numerous organizations from other nations (including China) as well as the U.S. Olympic Committee and such - but never heard of the IKF.
