CMA have the best... 8 Months, 4 Weeks ago
...names for techniques.

Parting the horses mane, grasping the birds tail and such like.

Myself and Hawk & Dove invented one called 'throwing the blanket'.

What are the coolest names for techniques in your art?

As you travel to the mountain, there may be people ahead of you. You may pass some of these people on the way, and some of them may pass you. You are all going to the same place, so it is as well to be civil to each other on the journey!

Good luck on your journey, I hope that our paths cross, and we may travel together for a time!

I have a couple of very twisted senior students who came up with names like:

Crush the begging orphan

Swat the praying nun

Like I said...they're very sick boys.

In Ong-Bak at the beginning Tony Jaa runs through a load of muay thai forms, the monikers for which I can't recall, but a number of which involve elephants and wizards, I think...

Anyway, here are some of the forms...

Mmmmmmmmmmm Tony Jaa

Our forms have quite dull names, but Finger Movement of the Dragon and Palm of the Bac Pie Mountains are my favourite.I can never remember any of the names for specific techniques though,I have a crappy memory!

I like "punching in the face" personally.

You'd like 'Box the ears' or 'Slap the face' then from practical tai chi chuan!

Heh, we always called that 'monkey steals peaches' in my circle, but same idea, heh heh.

I always liked and disliked that aspect of CMA. It is very poetic and probably made a great mnemonic device in the old days, but reverse punch and front kick work good for me.

Some of my favs:

Dragon and Tiger Appear
Black Tiger Steals Heart
Golden Cockeral Stands on One Leg

A good one is the stance descrition in Wing Chun:

Yi Ji Kim Yeung Mah

Translated as 'Two Adducting Goat Stance'

Or 'Goat Restraining Stance'. Its funny when you think of this and actually get in the stance!!
