Interview with Matthew Rochford 5 Months, 1 Week ago
Hey guys,

Thought I would try something new where we take an excerpt from a Martial Edge exclusive interview and discuss it. The interview was conducted by freelance writer Oli Nejad with the very passionate Matthew Rochford.

For the full version visit:

Matthew Rochford: Yes, it is my latest and potentially biggest project to date. Having made my Tai Chi School the biggest in the region, the next level was to create something that was not provincial and was free from any politics- something contemporary and relevant. Most people have no interest in what style of tai chi you do, what organisation you belong to or what lineage you have, they just want something accessible and useful, no strings attached. There is a real lack of marketing nouce within the tai chi world, and at times the perception is that the tai chi world is abstract, cliquey, too traditional, “anoraky” and out of step with the mainstream- which explains why it is lagging way behind arts such as Yoga and Pilates in terms of popularity.

What are peoples thoughts?

I think there's a cultural barrier pertaining to Tai Chi.
In China, it's common to see people practicing in the park.
Where up here, you'd get a beating for it.

I do remember reading about a Nudist Colony that practiced Tai Chi in the UK, so I guess it takes all sorts.

As you travel to the mountain, there may be people ahead of you. You may pass some of these people on the way, and some of them may pass you. You are all going to the same place, so it is as well to be civil to each other on the journey!

Good luck on your journey, I hope that our paths cross, and we may travel together for a time!

If you touch my Llama, I WILL kill you!
