My dear friend has decided to leave his current Taichi school, as the club were not very flexible on payments etc. Basically he was still expetced to pay 5 weeks in advanmce even though he would be away on holiday for 3 of them. Strange but true.
Unfortunetly our Kungfu and Taichi club is too far for him to get to, so I was hoping that my fellow gongfu and taichi brothers might be able to help and advise me of any taichi schools in or around the croydon area.
Thanks in advance.

What's wrong with that? The club still has to pay the rent and all the expenses whilst he's away.
Firstly its for a friend and not for me. Secondly most of the clubs I know, including mine, do a Pay as You Go scheme. If you dont train you dont pay. end of.
He was aksed to pay 5 weeks in advance, even though he would be away for 3, and was still expected to pay another 5 weeks in advance when he came back. So he wil be paying for 10 weeks, when he's only there 7. Makes absolutely no sense.
I agree that a student eeds o give back to ots club, but without the studentm there is no club.
Thanks for the site Bailu, I have passed it on! Cheers

Different points of view, you don't stop your gym membership, or any other club membership because you're going to be away for 3 weeks, you don't uninsure your car because you're away for 3 weeks, you'd still expect your club to pay the hall rent and all other insurances etc whilst you were away.
If a student wanted to train in my club on those terms I'd refuse him membership and so would most instructors I know.
I suppose this shows that our club is alot more flexible and member friendly than other clubs, who seem to be more interested in money than being flexible and actually trying to keep their students.
Each to their own I suppose. Thanks guys.

No it means that in a modern world dedicated students should support their club, not the other way round.
If you come n go perhaps you would 'pay as you go' but if your a dedicated student I want to support my club it doesnt make me do it. I want it to be there when I train. I want it to continue, I give not just take...
I'm not saying your clubs bad or unfriendly like you are claiming about 'others', I just said I don't see a problem with asking for a standing order.

I agree with Pre-Payment. All my students do it and don't have a problem. Any profit made in our gym goes back into it, we have just paid for our own refurb. I agree students should support their dojo/Kwoon and not the other way round............
