Re:Timewatch - Boxer Rebellion tv program 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Been watching this tonight and just into the last 10 mins.
Harrowing.
Sickened by Western Colonialism.
Not much about MA as some might expect.

Yup, France, Germany, UK, Russia, Japan and US.
Usual warmongers for the most part.
That female presenter was bugging me for some reason.
I'll watch it again tonight most likely.
I agree, I'd like to see a more thorough program, as it's an important part of history not taught in schools that I'm aware of.

I only heard about it from one of my MA teachers a few years ago..definately wasn't taught about it in school. No wonder that some Chinese people today are still anti the West.

Hmm, once you start looking at colonialism and Empire building you never stop.
We're still feeling the effects of the Crusades.
My what an evolved species we are.

Exactly this is just one of many events in the rabid imperialism of 1800 and 1900's. For the West it was a small event, but clearly it, like many other events like it had a great effect on the country that was the victim. It was events like this that made countries like Japan want to follow the western model and a piece of the action. Better to be a player than a victim I suppose.
My view on this event for years was based on the Hollywood film, starring Steve McQueen, if my memory serves me right.
