Hello Alishan and welcome to Martial Edge.

It really depends on what it is you want to teach. Generally, to teach anything in the UK you will need a CRB check - which is a criminal records bureau certificate to say you have no criminal convictions (all teachers in the UK need one) - you should also have a current first aid certificate as well. To protect yourself, you generally need personal indeminty insurance (or PI insurance).

What is it you are planning on teaching? There will probably be an equivalent UK martial arts association that will be able to advise you and chances are, they will recognise your French qualifiations as well - especially as they are part of the European Union.

Let us know how you get on!

Bon jour Alishan.
Up here, to let a premises from the council for the purposes of teaching MA, you need to be insured and it's common for that insurance to be offered by a governing body of xome kind or other.
Were you thinking of 'setting up shop' in the UK?

Good luck on your journey, I hope that our paths cross, and we may travel together for a time!

Hi Alishan

First of all, it's not compulsory to have anything. There is no law at present to stop you from just teaching.

As the Chairman of the Martial Arts Standards Agency I can tell you it's advisable to have the 'MASA Five' these are:

1. A Black Belt or equivalent in the martial art being taught.
2. An approved coaching qualification (NVQ or equivalent).
3. £5 million Professional Indemnity Insurance.
4. An enhanced CRB disclosure.
5. A clear pricing policy with no hidden charges.

If you go the MASA website at www.masa.org.uk you can download a full set of standards for free that will give you everything you need to run a club or association in the UK. If you go to the resources page there are links to the people that can provide anything you don't have.

My advice is to remain independent and get everything you need without joining a governing body as they have a habit of over charging, going bankrupt and having draconian rules.
