Thing is , all posters have to take responsibility with posting. If you post something that people disagree with ,which is always going to happen, and is what makes forums interesting, then you can't just complain and throw a wobbler if people disagree with you.
At the moment, and I know this may sound harsh,I know it's a new forum but I honestly think that people are too worried about being nice to each other .Yes, always have respect, but people are going to have disagreements and it's just one of those things.
OK ,why do you do it then? You obviously enjoy it but try and tell is what you like. Is it the history of it? The getting to wear cool outfits? Do you think it is effective? If so what do you feel is effective about it?
It's always good to ask yourself this kind of question to really get to the core of why you do your particular style.
I guess my personal problem with the way this thread way handled was because I'm not a martial arts expert myself at all but through Martial Edge have obviously been exposed to some amazing martial artists and learning more by the day. Now to me I completely see what redsnow is saying. He's saying ninjitsu is sexy, and "awesome" to quote him, and I completely agree...
Just look at it!...
By "sexy and awesome" (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I think what RS was trying to say was that to the average person who doesn't know much about ninjitsu it looks like a somewhat magical, mysterious, and lethal style to learn. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to see what RS was getting at...
The point here is , if someone shows an interest in a style, but perhaps is slightly naive or incorrect about their approach to learning about it, you have two choices in your response:
1) You can ask the *right* questions and steer the thread into a more productive one, for example like the questions in your last post.. why do you like it, the outfits? the history? etc
or
2) You can shoot them down calling their posts unintelligent and make them feel stupid, and as a result discourage them from finding out more, or asking the *right* questions in the future.
OK, so this is an internet forum and yes obviously people will differ in opinion but this sort of response gives Martial Edge a bad name. We're not about discouraging, we're about ENcouraging. If you have more experience in certain areas, then use your expertise and intelligence in this area to encourage others, not to make them feel like a dumb ass.
Clearly Martial Edge will naturally be split into two camps, those who are active practitioners who have experience and knowledge, and those who don't (eg me!) but want to learn more.
If I personally had asked that question on any internet forum and had that reaction I would have been massively put off.
To end my rant, I will leave you with a famous quote:
Jasons Mum: If you dont have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!
Ok I understand that. From my pov I have never seen ninjutsu work, if someone showed me then I would be more believing of the style.
I saw the series with Chris Crudelli, and yes he knows his stuff about various arts but I think things need to be questioned. Yes, people go into doing styles as they think they are "cool" ,and thats how a lot of people get to pay loads of money to "learn" something that is essentially based on an inadequate martial arts system.
And at no point did I say he was foolish or inadequate. I think maybe people need a sense of humour.

For those paying attention, you have the chance to ask direct questions to Chris via Martial Edge.
See front page for details.
I couldn't wait and emailed my questions in a good few weeks ago.
As you travel to the mountain, there may be people ahead of you. You may pass some of these people on the way, and some of them may pass you. You are all going to the same place, so it is as well to be civil to each other on the journey!
Good luck on your journey, I hope that our paths cross, and we may travel together for a time!
If you touch my Llama, I WILL kill you!

I think you slightly misunderstood my post here, I didnt say you did, nor was I directing any attack on you personally, what I said was:

When I say you here I am referring to the collective "you"
Actually it wasn't so much your posts that I found discouraging, quite the contrary and like I said in my last post/rant at least your response offered some productive comments eg asking what it is he liked about the style (clothing, history, etc).
Obviously as an admin I have to take somewhat of an impartial stance on this, but speaking personally here responses like this:

next time you want to start a thread try to do so by actually opening up with some thoughts. don't just say i wanna talk about something and then not actually bring something intelligent to the table.
... is discouraging to someone trying to simply find out more, and a particularly suprising response from a seemingly well accomplished instructor.
Like I said i think its just touched a nerve because if I was to get more involved on these forums and to start showing an interest in *any* type of martial art, I would be pretty dissapointed if that was the response I was given back.
Doesnt exactly give the impression of a welcoming community.
I'll leave it at that anyhow as I dont wish to make a huge deal of this nor do I want my personal opinions and responsibilities as an admin to cross over.
history, i like.
i do think it is very effective, because we train as if real life, we go to assault courses that are over a mile long (like 2km?) we set up real life scenarios, like we make an office, school room, kitchen, or whatever when we do improvised weapony.
the outfits aren't bad,i don't know about the shoes some wear though...
i do it because i want to be better at fighting/self defense/martial arts than i already am

Ok, so I've actually been totally away from this thread since my last post.
I do believe I came down a bit heavy-handed, and I already wrote a PM apology to Redsnow a few days ago. I also hope that he understands the advice I'm trying to give him is meant to help him be taken seriously by others as well as make our collective use of MartialEdge productive.
The thing I hate most about the internet is that you can say something and have it some WAY worse than you ever really intended it to sound. Which pretty much the way I'm going to take take any of the comments that are directed back at me. Sound fair, guys and gals?
Redsnow, can you tell us something about your ryu of ninjutsu?
