Well lets face it...

We said our bit and it's clear what the views are. It's all about skill and people will hopefully seek to acheive what they feel they need to. Different levels and different methods will always be evident in pretty much everything in the world, the key here is to embrace whatever is around and absorb techings even from those less experianced right up to true mastery. That is what makes us human and that is what makes us great!

All I say is don't lock yourself down, keep an open mind and open heart and you will find what you need.

I agree Tony.
It's a point I tried to make a couple of times.
People were 'googling' in, just to have a go at defending GKR, when they should really have been learning more from the rest of the board.

Once you've interracted with someone over a series of topics, you get a better feel for where they are.
I'm not one for 'art bashing' as a rule, just pick up on unqualified comment and 'litter'.

I'd support a thread 'lock down', or we're just going to see this thread keep springing back to life.

On the other hand without this thread i wouldnt have found my way here, listened to a lot of your comments and be learning more about martial arts in general - not just from the forum but also a number of the articles and reviews on the main site.

I also would not have been questioning my club as much as i now do.

It would be interesting to hear an interview between Lesley & GKR officials in UK - especially if she could take with her questions from users of this forum

Just wanted to throw my 2p into this thread. I trained with GKR for 3 years and, just like many people there (and I see a few in this thread too) I was brainwashed into believing it was a good club. Wrong. GKR is a little short of fraud and for a while I seriously considered taking legal action against them.

GKR, in their never-ending quest to open more and more dojos will put anyone who looks just half decent in to teach a class. Yellow belts with a few months total training teaching a class is normal in GKR.

We had a little catch phrase for them- GKR: Any C*** Up the Front!

Sadly I was one of those idiots up the front for a while. What a waste of 3 years

Hiya, I'm a new user, but i just wanted to thank you for the heads up really. My martial arts experience is near to nothing, but i have tried lots of different classes and i have been able to spot a great fighter when i see one.
But back to my point, i think if i never came across this forum i would now be starting on GKR's martial arts traineeships. Its always something i'm dreamed about and i would have went to the interview with bright eyes but luckily i read this thread before the interview. Evereything you have said is true and confirmed by the instructor. Its a complete sell out of what martial arts stands for, and you're right the website is completely misleading. The 'traineeship' involved more door to door sales then actaully martial arts experience and he said as well that yes, when ythe think you are 'ready' you can teach!I then went on to ask if whilst teaching, are you assisting a black belt instrcutor and he said no, but you only teach people below you're grade!! i couldn't believe it, i think only black belts should teach, no one else has earned that right, unless of course the person is just helping out, but obvisouly not leading the class!

So thank you again for saving me a few years of my life, as i was really up for it, but i will start from scratch at a good club, i guess nothing worth having in life ever comes easy, but i nearly fell for it!

And now you train in a Japanese Karate? Funny thought TKD was Korean.
Look at whwere you are now! Without the poor experience you had from GKR you would never have found your calling in TKD. Everything happends for a reason.

TKD is not a traditional form of japanese martial arts,
its a korean form of martial arts.

Therefore, i do believe that you can not call your self a master in martial arts as you claimed to be in a previous post
