When I used to practice TKD, I did this kick all the time. Mainly because it looked cool, but I suppose it can also help to build leg strength and jumping skill.

Every couple of months we have a session of who can do the highest flying side kick, jumping over a stack of pads to kick a paddle, I guess its just the art side of the martial art and id does look cool in demos.

As for practical use I suppose it might be useful if you have a grudge against someone on the other side of a low wall.

I teach it mainly for skill building and fun. I can't imagine actually trying to use one in a real fight unless my target had his feet cemented to the ground.

Well as far as I remember my martial arts history, the flying side kick was used on the battlefield to knock people of their horses.

I guess any application now would be to gain ground on an opponent - and to look cool!

That's the same thing I was told too, Lesley. I'm just not sure I buy it.

Urban Myth!
Sorry.

As you travel to the mountain, there may be people ahead of you. You may pass some of these people on the way, and some of them may pass you. You are all going to the same place, so it is as well to be civil to each other on the journey!

Good luck on your journey, I hope that our paths cross, and we may travel together for a time!

The funniest I heard was that it was for hitting the horse itself. Had these people even seen a horse?
