British Taekwondo Team head for Germany 7 Months, 1 Week ago
Recieved by Martial Edge from the British Taekwondo Council...

Thursday 6th March, 2008

Beijing hopeful Craig Brown (Fusion Taekwondo Club, London) will return from injury
this weekend to compete at the German Open Taekwondo Championships in Hamburg in
what is a crucial stage in his and the teams preparations for the European
Championships in April. Brown, who won a gold medal at last year's German Open, will
be keen to get back to winning ways as soon as possible and make an impact starting
in Germany this weekend.

Brown, who has recovered from a back injury commented: "There is definitely a sense
of déjà-vu about the German Open this year as I came back from injury under similar
circumstances last year to win the gold and I really hope I can do the same this
year. I know how competitive the field is but I am in good shape and I hope that
this weekend I can perform to the best of my ability."

Britain will take a competitive squad to Germany, although performance director Gary
Hall does have a number of notable absentees including Beijing hopeful Sarah
Stevenson. Hall said, "With 2008 being such a crucial year some of the athletes are
on a different training programme in the build up to April's European Championships
and this event does not suit some of their personal training cycles. In addition we
have a few injuries including one of our female junior's Farren Cummins who suffered
a broken leg two weeks ago at the Dutch Open so she was automatically ruled out
through injury. I still think with a reduced team we have a good chance of medalling
in a number of areas and Craig's return is a real boost."

British athletes will be in action in Hamburg on Saturday and Sunday and the German
Open is the last major international event before the European Championships, which
take place this April in the Italian capital of Rome.
