That is a very good question.

It depends on how you categorise it. I reckon sports-wise it is going to be either Judo or Taekwondo. Not so sure about actual membership to an association though.

I am fairly sure that the TAGB (Taekwondo for UK) has the biggest martial arts membership in the country at 25,000 members, but of course I could be wrong there.

What do other people think?

Well, Tai Chi is certainly the most widely practiced martial art in the world. Although I think the vast majority of those practitioners don't know beans about the martial applications of Tai Chi.

I have heard that TKD comes in second, but who knows for sure. I guess it depends on how you break things down. Do you count TKD all as one style even though there are clear divisions and differences just are there are in Karate and Kung Fu?

Tai Chi is certainly the most practiced art and most varied in the sense that there are many variations from 'monk' to 'warrior'..

I think Karate is a very popular art. Some of the biggest schools (unfortunately commercialised) are karate, plus its an olympic sport etc. I think probably more so than TKD.
