Capoeira 7 Months ago
The story goes, that Capoeira was brought to Brazil from Africa by slaves;

There's a fuller version of it's history here;

As you travel to the mountain, there may be people ahead of you. You may pass some of these people on the way, and some of them may pass you. You are all going to the same place, so it is as well to be civil to each other on the journey!

Good luck on your journey, I hope that our paths cross, and we may travel together for a time!

Hi Mule

I have only been going for 4 months-so i havent much to tell!

I only started because my daughter wanted to go-and she thought my class was to rough

Im still on the basics im afraid

Ginga -the main movement

Au- cartwheel

crouching defence moves(i dont know the brazillian for these)
Head and hand stands using just one hand sometimes-eek

I have tried to upload the ACER Capoeira group that perform at Seni 08 (the club I go to is Capoeira Uniao in MK)

so just type it in the you tube thingy (im a techiphobe)
The players stand in a circle whil the music is played and two people start the 'game' and we take it in turns as the music gets faster and faster-its great and no accidents as yet

I hope someone more qualified will elaborate more and post you more info but i do recommend to anyone to try it at least once

General escapes are called Esquiva (pronounced es-KEE-vah)

The two ground escapes I'm most familiar with are Negativa and Role. Negativa drops your torso very close to the ground and you support yourself on two hands and one foot. The other leg stretches out. Role (pronounced HO-lay) is a kind of sideways ground roll and can be executed after a Negativa and many other moves.

I have some dvds on Cap, but I've never had the chance to work with a real Mestre, so all of my information really is from watching and reading.

Hi, Although i have never done capoeira, it does look like something that would greatly enhance strength, balance timing and flexibility. It is something i would love to try but unfortunatly I dont know of any schools close to where i live. intereting video clip
