There's a 16th century castle near me, which has what I used to think of as a 'flick sword'.
You hit a button on the pommel and the blade extends another foot or so.
Somebody really devious must have come up with that one.

The flintlock sword pistols are an interest of mine

I did go looking for something similar and got sidetracked by a history of the Kukri, the Ghurka's fighting knife.

I'm having one of these when I get older;

Got me an old version outer rattan more like a long letter opener
but still very sharp (pity its classed as a concealed weapon)
