I am intending on writing an article soon about the physiology of addiction of withdrawal in martial arts.
I am currently undergoing a kind of withdrawal stage in MA at the moment.
I really want to train but I have a Japanese test next month and also have work to contend with leaving me little time to do any training at all.
I could kind of consider this a break but there is part of me that wants to just kick down a wall right now.
I have until the 5th of next month in this condition where I can only do a few hours (maybe 3 or 4) per week (I usually do at least 8 hours at the dojo plus my own training).
Anyone got any comments on this kind of MA withdrawal?
Anyone got any comments on this kind of MA withdrawal? yeah it SUCKS!!
Seriously though, when I was out for bout 8 weeks with my knee injury I got run down and frustrated with missing training. Sometimes getting motivated after a break can be hard as you fill that time with wasting activities like watching movies or playing games becoming ever more complacent.
I also has a period where I was working abroad a lot and I was missing training for bout 4 months making the odd 1 or 2 here and there and in the end I quit my job and started working more regular hours so I could make training. I even moved closer to my clubs dojo's. Thats how serious I am about training and being away drove me to make some big changes in my life to incorporate it.
I think, because for me MA is also a life coping / understanding mechanism, without it things seem to get harder to deal with...
This situation blows. I am on a study week now where I have taken a week of work for the sole purpose of studying. This is not like feeling sorry for a university student. I am a frigging teacher.
I want to train but I have no time .
After Sunday, everything will be fine.

I know how you feel, I know you havev time to train, Have you ever heard of Kitchen kata?
I practice my kata in the kitchen whilst I'm making a cup of tea or if I got something in the microwave or got something in the oven which takes a few moments.
It is healthy to have a break from Karate for a few days as you come back refocused. Have you tried to meditate? Not too sure of your religious back ground but prayer does help my friend.
Remember you have a 1:44,500 chance of grading as a Nidan Yudansha be the 1 not 1 of 44,500!
I know there are only 168 hours in a week but look at what is important and work out what priorities each task has.

I've heard of it but my kitchen is really friggin semai (I've forgotten English correctly...narrow?). Its more that my mind is busy with study than anything else. Did a lot of push ups and sit ups to me and it kind of made it difficult to concentrate after due to exhaustion (I overdo it sometimes).

Karate is my meditation and I don't subscribe to religion at all. When you have studied as much science as I have and moved around enough you look at religion very differently. Japans religious views are great, i.e. don't let it interfere with everyone's busy schedule but have way more festivals than any other religion and drink a lot during the festivals. Selfish religion is the best..."kamisama, give us a reason to party"

Right now study only. Sunday is the end. I'll just grit my teeth and carry on.

It's always nice to hear people have the same habits!
