WT North - can I ask about the sauna - is it important for your training?

Keep it coming guys! I'm learning a lot thru this, but I've got to go and eat before I fall off my chair!

I'm not a fan of saunas, too hot for my liking..... i prefer a jacuzzi as i find it helps massage the muscles and relaxes me. If only i still had access to one.

Barry lets club together and get a Jacuzzi, we can all hang out in it after training..... hang on, mental pictures suggest thats not a good idea. I can't imagine Russell in a Jacuzzi

yer it is for me, i sweat a lot in hard workouts and hot weather, the sauna allows my body to get used to hotter temperatures and reduces sweating when i'm training.

nice little tip if you sweat a lot

I work full time and don't have any kids etc so I am lucky that out of work my time is my own! My house is generally a bombsite though as I have no time for house work!

In terms of metabolism mine is getting a lot faster I think. There are some days when I seem to eat loads and others where I am not hungry. If I'm not hungry but training I make sure I get protein and stuff some carbs down my throat so I get energy for training.

And course, just let me know how I can help

That's very kind of you. Its good to be able to discuss. Its such an exciting time in my life - being able to get back into exercise is brilliant, but I've got to get it right.

Does the protein help the metabolism thing at all? I'm seriously questioning if I can remain veggie.

Who needs housework anyway!?!

Not sure how it affects metabolism but it's great at helping recovery. Protein also assists in muscle growth too so it's important.I honestly couldn't be a veggie. My diet centres around meat, turkey, chicken, the occasional red meat, I also eat tofu a fair bit as well.

I can't thank you guys enough.

WT North - cheers - I won't comment about my sweating capacity, but thanks!

Su Lin you've converted me - to whey protein I mean! Oli kept telling me about it too. Any particular brands you'd suggest?

the only thing i'm worried about with the Whey Protein Shakes is i don't want to add any muscle (Not at the moment anyway) but if it helps recovery from training sessions then it might be worth a look.

Where do you get it from and what the hell does it taste like

I get this
http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/whey-protein/whey-protein-(2lb)/

but may try their new True Whey. I got the chocolate flavour. When taking protein though, even though it has enzymes to aid digestion you need to drink more water and possibly something like cranberry juice to aid digestion. I just mix 2 scoops with milk and it tastes nice!

if it's a cardio work of buddy eat a banana after your work out, it's full of potassium which will aid recovery with out the extra muscles gain

I know Even my bf likes the taste of it! Don't be worried if you get a bit "burpy" afterwards, that goes after a while!

eh?

Actually that site looks pretty good, I've found a couple of other products I might try - so cheers for that, I've been looking for an alternative supplier of some supplements for a while and hadn't found anywhere. Do you know they do T-shirts though!?

I could probably work a few more fitness sessions around my job without my girlfriend leaving me. I need to get my running shoes back on a few times a week.

Monday - 2 mile walk, approx 30 mins bodyweight/medicine ball/resistance bands exercise, teach 2.5 hrs
Tuesday - 2 mile walk, teach 1.5 hrs, train 1 hr no gi grappling/mma
Wednesday - 2 mile walk, approx 30 mins bodyweight/medicine ball/resistance bands exercise, teach 2.5 hrs
Thursday - free
Friday - free
Saturday - free
Sunday - train 1 hr bodyweight exercise/padwork, 1 hr kickboxing sparring, 1 hr no grappling/mma

Our association has recently brought in a fitness regime for black belt candidates to do 10,000 sit ups and 10,000 press ups in a 90 day* period before their test. I'm trying to do an average of 120 sit ups and press ups every day at the minute.
