Martial Arts has changed me. How has it changed u? 5 Months, 1 Week ago
Here i go...
Before i started my martial arts, to be honest, i was controlling, aggressive, not afraid to hit someone and i was most definitely really annoying lol.
But what i have noticed from when i started my first serious martial art (kyushindo karate). it changed me, i was less controlling and i didn't always need to be the best (i could accept defeat). I now practice a few martial arts and they are starting to get at the complicated level.
And now i wouldn't hit someone unless i really had to or if we both had pads on and we were in the ring. I am less aggressive and i have expanded my friendship group.
This is my odd story which people are going to laugh at and doubt.
And i upon many others would like to hear your stories
thanks
Dave

Well I actually originally became MORE agressive when I started doing martial arts. I kinda wished I'd get into a street fight so I could try out what I'd learnt and sparring seemed like the ultimate martial arts training exercise. But when I actually had a reason to get into a fight, and violent energies where boiling up around me, I realised that violence isn't fun in reality, and I chose to take the slightly less violent option and went at it at a wall (that's when I messed up my knuckle, but at least I learn't a lesson ).
Anyway, it's definately made me more confident about myself and I feel a lot safer and more stable. Though I haven't actually done any ma for a while now... gonna join a budo club up by my summer house for the holiday though!

Well, it wasn't until I'd been doing a martial art for a while did I start to notice the differences in my personality and physical being.
I didn't realise how much fitter and more in shape I am compared to other women my age when I started my beginners Taekwondo class. After I'd finished the warm up which involved a bit of jogging, stretching and a few exercises, they were knackered and I wasn't even out of breath. This is as a result of regular training and regularly burning off excess calories.
Also, and this is particularly true of my job as a secondary school teacher, I became more assertive and better able to put my foot down and say no to people who previously would have walked all over me. I'm better able to deal with the things that my job can throw at me and my colleagues have commented that I seem to have more of a 'physical confidence' when in the classroom and as a result, am better able to deal with the nasty situations when they arise.
Taekwondo has offered me loads of opportunites that I wouldn't have otherwise had, afterall, if I hadn't have started training, I wouldn't be writing this post!

I understand where you’re coming from mate. I was the same, I was very aggressive because in general I was frustrated with life, I had nothing to aim for, I had problems at school, at home etc. I won't go into details...
I'm a musician so that did help me a lot because as a teenager I could vent my emotions through playing, but I still needed something else... As I grew older I decided that I wanted to find a MA and commit to it. I found a club with Aikido and began training.
By this time I had actually calmed down a lot but looking back I can see little discipline issue's with taking commands, and thinking I could already do something when I obviously couldn't, I had my ego.
Now my ego is calmed, my mind body is calmed; it’s helped my musical flow as well as my harmony with life. I have found deeper insights into bigger more important things in life.
MA and my music helped me realise that humans can achieve much more potential. We can live in better harmony and I feel that people need something in their lives. We are lucky enough to have found MA and this has given us purpose. I feel sorry for our fellow humans that have not found anything apart from pop music, make-up, drinking, football etc. I'm not saying those things are bad, it’s just running peoples lives. They do not have control of themselves; MA gives us this control...
I love it!!!!

Yeh i understand where everybody is coming from here.
i swas talking my mate today and we were talking about, if everybody took a step back and looked out on life and thought about the way they are going, everyone would be different, everyone would have more sense. its hard to explain with a little words.

Like everyone has pretty much said really..developing confidence was a big one for me when I started, removing fear of being hit or hitting back. Learning how to control my emotions or letting it show when appropriate. I think we all have some aspect of ourselves that we find is truely developed when we begin our martial arts training

Ok I shall be serious now! I did change when I started kung fu, I became more disciplined and realised I needed to get fit to be any good. Squaring up to someone didn't come naturally but it came eventually. I have changed possibly more though since I started mma as well as kung fu. My training ethic has risen ridiculously, I now train 6 days a week and put everything into it as I realised my conditioning needs to improve.
Discipline is the main thing for me I think, it's the one thing (well 2 really) that I have actually stuck at and do almost religiously.
