I seldom use pressups in my resistance routine, but have been wanting to get back into them for some time. What's stopping me is my elbow does something odd after around the tenth rep.
Essentially whilst performing the pressup, I have no trouble lowering myself, holding, but it's when I go to push myself back up that my elbow starts to kick in. My elbow clicks and jolts slightly. It's not painful when this happens but its extremely off-putting.
Any idea what this is/could be? And how it could be resolved?

I have the jaw trouble also, crunches when I yawn.
Do you know of any excercises I can do that can sort it or is it something that will sort itself? Or that won't and I just have to get on with.
I'm no expert, I'm not a doctor and I can't diagnose; but I'm looking at this purely from a therapist's POV.
Are you guys aware the jaw thing could be TMJ? I have it too! I know of some great resources for it, so let me know if I can help. There are ways to manage the jaw condition and exercises for that!
Will see if I can trace any info on the eblow problem.

Sure, glad to be of help! I'll post some basic stuff about TMJ on the forum - quite literally as a guideline for anyone interested who engages in martial arts - sports injuries can be a trigger for it! I'll email you both some guidelines and exercises, if that's OK?
I found some info about a possible cause for the elbow problem, just to be extra cautious, are either of you getting pain from it? (I know, Oli, you said it wasn't painful - has it EVER been painful?)
Samael, does the elbow thing happen the same way as Oli's - after so many reps?

My elbow doesn't do it much. It comes and goes and there is no pattern to it. Its doing it today but didn't yesterday!
The jaw is the problem. Its out of line as well and some days its really annoying (constantly biting the side of my mouth etc) but not painful. Just clunks in and out of place!

Help is at hand guys!
Oli - yep, will explain more, chewing pens is a bit of chicken and egg scenario with it!
Samael, have you got a good NHS dentist? That really sounds like TMJ - particularly with it being out of line. You never had an injury to the head or face?
Re: elbow - are you saying you've done similar/same activities on both days, but today its happening? It could be significant.

Yesterday I was doing a bit of boxing. Today I've been on my arse all day at work, but will be lifting later.
About the jaw injury a long history of galavanting around doing stupid stuff has made me a sack of injuries! I can't remember anything specific to the face thou.
And no I don't even have a dentist. Is that something that you would recommend getting checked up?

Post edited by: Samael, at: 2007/12/05 23:43

Aha! The boxing could be a clue!
You may not like what I'm about to say...but information is empowering!
