Getting cramp 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hello, I've always had this problem, it seems to come and go but recently, definitely going through a painful phase of it.

I'm often getting cramp in my instep and it can come on either when I'm sitting and watching telly or more often than not, when I am training.

Does anyone else get this? Does anyone know what the causes of cramp are? Any ways of dealing with this or even better, prevention?

Hehe, I mostly get cramp in my jaw muscles for some reason...

Anyway sticking to the subject, my mum has had some trouble with cramp, and from what I gather from her little bouts of cramping up its really just a waiting game. Of-course, I'm no expert. I'm quite sure that if you're really having a lot of cramp for a long period of time you should probably consult a doctor. TRy googling it!

Drinking enough water?

Lack of water and minerals are usually the main cause of cramps.

Water itself has little mineral content, so try diluted fruit juice or similar.

Heh, gmail gave me this website; http://www.allcalm.com/legcramps2.html?creativeID=11639588&tn=4846&group=4846&failsafe='http://www.allcalm.com/legcramps/'&gclid=CI6S2N_n0pMCFQ6S1Qodg118kA

I don't know how true this "all natural remedy" is but maybe its worth a shot?

Ps. Gmail generates advertisements based on the content in mails recieved by the user, just to clarify

Actually mule, you are right as when I thought about it last night, I probably don't drink enough water or fruit juice.

I'm terrible for drinking tea when I'm thirsty when really, I should have some water as well. This is often a problem when I'm at work as when you are teaching for several hours a day, you forget (also, the kids can chuck the water around if they get hold of it).

Will pay attention to that from now on!

If you drink lots of Tea Lesley then really you are drinking a fair amount of water. All Tea really is is infused water.

Also when someone tells you that tea has more caffeine in it than coffee tell them to get their facts straight as Tea only has more caffeine pound for pound so a cup of tea actually has a third the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee

Phew! Life without tea would be just a little less pleasant, I can't function in the morning before my first cup of cha!

Amen to that. Most people go for the coffee but its gotta be tea first thing.

I also have some japanese green tea which i drink when standard PG tips gets a bit too much. Hate the stuff on its own but add a bit of honey and its an awesome tisane. Boosts my energy for my lunchtime run too

A lot of times it means you have a lack of potassium in your body. Eat lots of bananas and drink plenty of water.

this is a good point (recently in school we were working on muscles and cramp is also caused by not enough oxygen entering the muscle as well as lack of minirals and water)

Cramps have a relation to lack of body salts.

Eat more bananas, and incorporate a little more of our sodium and potassium friends but dont go pouring a mountain over ur meals.

In fact get some hydration packets like diorolyte, usually have a nice mix of sodium and potassium salts to hydrate the body. People tend to fear salt as too much is bad for you but so is too little.

I have an unusual remedy for cramp that my sister says works well.
She wears a ring or bracelet made of magnetic heamatite. Apparantly it stops cramps.

If people here think this is crazy, I will be sure to tell her! I am skeptical (spelling?) but is there anything to lose.

Regards, Jason.
