Quitting.... 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
....my gym membership to take on more muay thai sessions

I keep re-evaluating my training, working out what works, how I could train smarter etc . I have come to the conclusion that my gym membership is somewhat superfluous at the moment. Basically I go at weekends now for 2 cardio sessions and 2 weights sessions. My cardio sessions dont push me- it's body combat (otherwise known as cardio for girls) and even though its an hour I get through it easily and even though I push myself, it's just a regular ,traditional cardio class.

What I am thinking will be better is interval training. There is a big hill in Lancaster I used to run up,with a monument at the top and lots of steps which I intend to use to make myself sick through intervals

I am also making use of my spare room for weights, I dont need much equipment as focus on squats, deadlifts and bench presses with some dumbell and body weight stuff thrown in too. I have NEver Gymless by Ennemait so lots of ideas for stuff.

This is all so I can fit at least another muay thai session in. I love it, so want to make the most of it. So will be Monday-kung fu ,Tuesday- Muay thai/weights,Weds -muay thai, Thurs off(or mma) -,Friday -intervals/weights,Saturday -mma, Sunday intervals or off.

I wish I had a fight lined up with all this training

I feel better about it now though- I know when I need to rest and my classes are fairly flexibe. I can go to muay thai either Tues,Weds or Thurs ,so I have gone from none to all this training!

Thing is I just want to make the most of it, you don't always get the chance to train under Kru's who have trained under the best!

Wow! Good luck Su Lin.

Are you managing to avoid the boom-bust cycle of fatigue now?

i was puzzling my brain as to what qutting was... a new form of exercise... I was intreaged. So I looked in the thread

Sounds like a good plan to me panda girl. If I had the option of cardio at the gym or muay thai, I know which I would take!

For me the only reason I have a gym membership is because there are no martial arts classes run at lunch time near my work

Free weights at home are great if you have the space also :)

So now you are training as much as a Pro, when is your first pro fight going to be?

I seem to have just about got it right thanks Wuming (though I did have a stomach bug last week so had a few days off!).

Cheers guys. There's a really big part of my brain that keeps saying that it wants to fight properly, then the other small part gets a little scared, then my boyfriend reminds me I am over 30

Dunno, it's difficult getting fights. I could easily enter an open comp kickboxing type thing, but it's not really my kind of thing. I am hoping to have a word with my mma teacher about it on the quiet. He claimed last time that a pro lady he rolled with a while back wouldn't beat be when grappling ,but he may just have been making me feel better

There just aren't many women around fighting amateur mma or even pro mma ,especially my weight, they are all smaller than me (height wise). There is a grappling comp early next year I have my eye on. It may be that when we travel to train with Sandy Holt in a couple of months that there are more opportunities.

Just all depends on which style/ruleset my skills are best used in.

And damn, realised my stupid title typo!

Pace yourself for the long term! Keep something back for yourself.

Reckon you should go for it. Don't you dare let your age stop you! Know 'where' you are, respect that, but go for it!

Don't worry about it, we know what you mean.
