Can you guys give me your opinion on this piece of equipment please - do you see it being useful or is it a waste of money?

Personally I think you would be just fine with a free standing bag if you don't have the room for a hanging bag. That way you don't have to worry about all the electronic components to the one above.

Paris,
if you have enough in the bank to even consider purchasing this, then you'd be far cheaper taking me for a nice meal, getting me drunk, knocking seven shades of hell out of me and asking for feedback.

Get a good (heavy enough) free hanging bag.

Probably have enough left over to buy a video camera to 'self spot' your weaknesses and bad habits.

I would say its a nice gadget if you got money to spare on such things. Hell it woulf be fun for something to call out a place to hit and you thump it, kinda like a game. However for training purposes I don't think its really necessary unless you find bag work so boring that you dont do it.

If you got the money and it doesn't burn your pocket then sure why not, but a good bag as already said will do the same job.

Maybe if you could program it to sound like Gordon Brown and put a mask on it, you would have more fun kicking thw crap out of it?? Hehehe or George Bush? or the boss whoever haha.

"more taxes blah blah" WHACK!!!!!
"war oil blah blah" KICK PUNCH KICK KICK KICK KICK KICK KICK.... I guess it would be easy to get carried away haha!

Thanks you guys!

To explain my interest in the slam man's usefulness, I figured that the benefits might lie in the element of surprise that it provides (given that respective target area's light up at increasing speeds without the prior knowledge of the idividual) as opposed to using a punch bag where it's up to the individual to choose his target area. Would this not be a great way to instill speed and accuracy in a way that a punch bag could not?
Thanks

P.S.
Mule...
I notice you seem to be under the impression I would need to give you indigestion then get you plastered before kicking seven shades of hell out of you...
Um, you forgot to mention the blindfold you'd also need to be wearing

Your right in what you say, it would help with reactions and things. Looks like fun aswell, I just think that training with people and personal practise on timing is sufficient!

If I had the space and money I would probably have one, although not needed to improve my skill as such, it would prove fun and of course would improve reactions etc...

Re:Slam Man 3 Weeks, 4 Days ago
personally i think these are awful,
i would much rather use a bob or a freestanding bag as opposed to this
i don't find it comfortable to hit if you know what i mean, it's a piece of hard plastic.
and i'm sure you could work out your own combo's etc on any other hanging or freestanding bag and your power, speed, accuracy and technique will improve the more you use it anyway.
and the major downside is you can't kick him really
sorry, never been a fan of the flashy LED man

That's ok subfocus, stuff like this is exactly what I wanted to know about the slam man and you appear to be the first ME member who's actually used one of these things

First I've seen this, but no matter.

Paris, if you've got the money and it looks like something that'd help you, then you're the one that's in the best position to decide.

One small item though: The B.O.B. I have is the full model, i.e., with boxing trunks and all the great targets underneath (and they are legion in that area ). That's really important to my art. The waist up dummies seem modeled more on the boxing idea...Anyway, just my opinion.

I'm not sure how similar to other standing bags, but I have had bad experiences with standing bags. I kept knocking them over with punches, so didn't even bother kicking.

If at all possible get a hanging heavy bag. Thats my only advice unfortunately.

Freestanding bags are good if you fill them with sand, you will still always get movement though, your ment to train around the bags so dont expect it to be 100% solid, i would recommend the bob/bob xls as they are far more realistic than the slam men
