Re:War Wounds 5 Months ago
Ah, I forgot about my shin injury (I suppose that is a good thing). It took 6 months to recover to the point where I could touch the area where I got kicked and a further 6 months for it to be normal again.

The guy I was fighting was an absolute beast. I don't know what grade he was but his black belt was falling apart so I am guessing he is quite high. He threw a really heavy turning kick at my head which I blocked with my shin. I went down quite quickly.

Looked like a sore one Tony.
Pretty sweet reverse turning kick he caught you with too.

Yea, I was pretty woozey after the first kick. After that kick I had to fight the rest of the round. The guy I thought gave me a good beating but hes a really nice guy. I spoke to him in the tournament this year and we were happy to see each other again. Gotta love good sportsmanship

I've had broken ribs, nose and teeth in tourneys.
Torn my back, dislocated a finger or two, torn shoulder.
Worst injuries were to do with inflammation of the elbows.
Cortisone injections just ain't funny.
Snapped an achilles tendon which has put some limitations on doing anything crazy, cos I ain't going through that again.
Oh, and ruptured eardrum, which was more recreational sparring than anything else.

C'mon peeps, give us your gory stories.

Re:War Wounds 5 Months ago
I broke my nose by trying to be cocky in sparring. I picked the roundhouse coming at me and thought I'd counter with a punch to the body. All I suceeded in doing was put my nose on the other guy's shin. If I'd just let him kick me, I would probably have just got a footpad slapped against my head. I spent nearly 4 hours in A&E when I should have been revising for my final exams at uni only to be asked by the doctor whether I thought the nose was out of shape or not.

Broke my left wrist early last year in an MMA class. Went for a leg drop takedown from a body lock, my partner countered and my hands slipped so I fell on my back with my partner on top trapping my hand on his hip. His bodyweight bent my wrist back and it went crack. Luckily I had wraps and MMA sparring gloves or it could have been worse. I was trying not to vomit and all the time everyone was telling me that if I could move it, it wasn't broken. Well they were wrong and I had a pot on it for about 6 weeks.

Breaking my right thumb was probably the worst for long term effect. I broke it sparring in my 1st dan test. I deflected a spin back kick away from my stomach, but it bent back the thumb on my other hand. Adrenaline got me through the grading, but on the way home it swelled up and I needed a pot on it. For a year or so, it was weak and I kept knocking it. It still hurts on cold days until I get it moving.

Ha thankfully the only wound i've had bar the usual cuts and bruises was on my first ever day training WT.

Managed to get partnered with the biggest guy in the class (Top bloke) but during the blitz defence he stepped on my foot (as you're supposed to but the weight came down on my big toe. Nice cracked toenail which i didn't notice till i got home. God bless adrenaline
