Not quite Pete, a straight lead is efficient, JKD is always striving for for efficiency of movement balanced through expression. If your thinking is static is will cling to the familiar, if it is dynamic, you will change your whole understanding of your art over time.

R, how may other ways of are there of doing a straight lead? Surely, if you write a book about it then its laying the foundation of a system rather then an evolving dynamic concept as you say.

Not answering for Ronin, but...

You'll have seen much discussion of concepts & principles vs techniques.

The idea of using your closest weapon, is a concept or principle.
What you describe from the book, is a technique, which is merely the physical manifestation of the concept/principle.

Clear as mince eh?

I've not seen that fim, but it looks great.
Sorry if I come across as an oldie lecturing.

My point was that there s something referred to as 'technique collector mentality'.
People go to seminars and such and all they focus on is learning techniques to add to their arsenal, but never gain sight of the principles and concepts behind them.

End of lecture.

I mean as in mixing martial arts to make a system that suits you. Bruce Lee was the one who properly introduced people to the concept.

Surely every person who started their own system and given it a name has made it up of techniques that suited them?

Was Bruce Lee the first person to train in more than one style and adapt what he learned?
