Cat 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Got me a kitten! He's lovely and small and he's got his mother's (that would be me) hatred of the wiggly shoelace of death - one day it will pay for its crimes!

Any one got any kitten related stories (no horror stories I've already lost enough sleep to pee related stealth attacks) that may help with his training?

Further to the animal discussion, there has been a paedo reportedly hanging round our area, have had dogs before and am now going to get another, problem is I want a dog that can be easily trained to guard my kids, looks a bit scary but will be gentle wth kids also. Am thinking border collie. Any advice or ideas welcome

Ok border collie would be bad for kids that age due to their instinct to herd. They may end up biting your kids into place. Plus they need so much activity you'll end up having a) a really bored and badly behaved dog if you don't exercise him or b) a really really tired you.

Your best off getting a German Shepard as although they are a big dog they only need moderate exercise and are loyal to the end while being a brilliant family pet.

The Labrador Retriever is very trusting of strangers and if your reasons for getting one is for security as well your better off with another type of dog.

German Shepard won't herd kids but needs to be given time to interact with other dogs and people to stop them from being aggressive for no reason. It will act as more of a pet who is there to guard will being a member of the family if that makes sense?!?

Other wise Doberman Pinscher are my real favorite. Better than a German at this role but with a bad rep due to the media which is why people normally steer clear. This is what I'm going to get and train once I've got my own kids to have guarded.

As you can see I'm bias towards big dogs so take it with a pinch of salt!

You can upload pics into your gallery here, or to sites like tinypic.com, which give you a code you can use for pics, which you just cut n paste into your posts.
