So i just saw someone standing on a window ledge in Shipley being coaxed back in by firemen.

The idiots in front of me wacked on their brakes to sit and watch. What is it with people, why do they feel the need to stop and stare.

As soon as i saw him my first thought was 'That fall will never kill him' It was only 2 stories so unless he landed really badly....

Odd what goes through your mind when you see something completely out of the normal like that.

Anyone had any experiences like this and what went through your mind?

Have you ever survived a fall from 2 stories?
I'm guessing it was a concrete landing?

I once jumped over a wall that was waist level on one side and a 10 foot drop on the other. The landing was nice soft grass, but I still couldn't walk and had to be taken to hospital for a spinal X-Ray.
And that is 10 foot onto grass.

I guess they are descendents of people who used to go to public hangings for the entertainment value.

That said, if your are going to jump off a tall building, there are plenty to chose from where you can't be seen doing it.

So, the jumpers probably want -

The attention of onlookers,
To be talked down,
Then to be offered help.

I don't know because my brain isn't wired in a way I can comprehend watching not helping.

People lead such routine based lifes that to most, nothing exciting or different happens so when they witness something like this, i.e. man jumping off building or car accidents whatever people stop to watch it so they can find some kind of solice in knowing A, it wasn't them or B, something to talk about other than a soap opera or football game.


On the road I am not interested if things are going on as I am driving and thats what I am concentrating on. If I was a passer by on foot I would probably have a look then be like... 'Eh great' and move on.

When I was about 12 I did see a man in union jack shorts climb up tower bridge in London and jump off into the Thames. I must say that was rather funny, but then again I was a child.

I saw a guy walk off a bus and straight into the path of on coming car. He was lucky though as it looked like he had just broken his leg.


On a more personal vein I remember going to the old peoples home when I was a kid with my dad and uncle. It was my grandmas birthday and had advanced alzheimers. We had to sing her happy birthday with candles on a cake - ill never forget that.
