Colin Jackson Programme 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hello, saw this really interesting programme last night about Colin Jackson (the 110m hurdle champ). It was exploring what it is about him that makes him a champion athlete - they did all these tests to see if it was his biological make up, psychology and upbringing. The upshot of it was that he has a lot of 'super fast twitch' muscles, has a supportive family and is generally of a sunny yet determined disposition.

The programme was basically trying to do the nature vs nurture debate and found it was a bit of everything.

Anyway, what do readers think? What makes a champion (in martial arts or any sport)

What are the ingredients to success?

Passion for one... Without passion we have no love for what we do.

Support.... Despite what anyone says we all need support, Humans need each other and there is no shame in that.

Determination, confidence, positive attitude and a natural instinct..

I think these qualities make the best of whatever it is!

They had to make an entire programme to tell them that

Talent without support or determination is not enough and equally determination and support can only get you so far without a natural talent.

In addition to what Ryusui_Ryu has mentioned;

To be a true champion I think arrogance can be important in the mix, humility in life is one thing but when you are getting yourself into the mental state to tell yourself that you can win because you ARE the best it must be easier if you are arrogant enough to believe that in the fist place.
