Pete that Paul guys sounds interesting. Is the vid on the site?

As to what your looking for in a weapon - think. Thats what I started this thread for. Try to collect all the ideas we can think of to a decent way to use every possible object that comes to hand.

With the law it's getting ignored for this thread (please no shouting at me about it). I want to have a separate thread for that as I don't what this one getting clogged with the weird world of the law!

Hey,

Just read this thread, some really interesting stuff here. Kinda reminds me of that case (was it a guy call someone Bell?) who shot a robber a he was fleeing the scene then got put in prison, I guess a similar stance would be taken in a sefl defence situation.. eg if the guy was trying to leg it and you kung fu'ed his ass, if he could prove it its likely you would be charged...

Bit unfair if you ask me though, I rekon aussie rules should apply any guy (or girl!) who has the cheek to break into your house!

LSD, interesting request for an article there, hopefully our editorial team can dig up a legal expert to quiz on the matter, although there seems to be some pretty clued up people on this forum!

i believe if you start shouting and they dont leg it then they intend more than simple burglary in this case grab whatevers nearest be it the tonfa's hanging on the back of the door or a speaker stand. Both can be considered offensive weapons but you have the right of self defense and it doesn't matter if the weapon is improvised or not, you'll be judged on how you used it. Always remember the term reasonable force.

"better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6"

Really numchucks aren't classed as offensive weapons wow, I'm really just learning them properly now and there pretty offensive when you crack your self with them, so imagine what hitting someone else full flow would do. Just as a matter of interest the recent article in the news about the shop keeper defending himself against a knife robber, who ended up getting stabbed with his own knife. I believe this is going to be a land mark case as the shop keeper has not been charged with murder

That would be landmark, we may finally be able to protect ourselves without getting into trouble for it. We hear it far to often when somebody has defended themselves that they too end up charged with assult (for me this is a comment too close to home!!).
Do you use wooden numchucks 'cos i found you learn alot quicker with these as you don't want to hit yourself to often

Wow...Over here in the U.S. I have a loaded .45 on hand as well as a number of other firearms...and a slew of swords and knives (I used to make them - the Bowie is my favorite) and a bunch of other weapons...

When Mr. Chris Lomas (from England) spent time with us he noted the kubotan which I use as a keyring - and told me that such an item would be illegal in England if it was carried as a (self-defense) weapon.

Good heavens. Well, they can't take my calloused hands away from me!

He managed to stab the robber with the robbers knife or the shop keepers own?

If it was with the robbers knife then it means that the Shop Keeper must have disarmed the robber somehow. This poses a difficult situation. As the robber is now unarmed and you are armed you can't really go and stab him as that would not be reasonable force... however... it's not likely that you would throw away your only advantage if this occurred.

In a court of Law if you then killed the Robber its murder.

It's a tricky one to be sure.

@pstarr
Yeah any blade over 3 inches here (Length of blade not entire knife) is deemed as an offensive weapon and you'll get arrested.

I don't really see why anyone would want to carry a knife around thats over 3 inches long in the UK unless going camping or hiking (I believe its allowed then).

The majority of robberies and Breaking and entering in the UK are performed either without any weapons or with knives (Mainly due to the fact they're difficult to get hold of and no one is going to be pointing a loaded 45 at them as they climb through a window so you don't need to carry. Knives act as a pretty convincing deterrent to any would be heroes.

We're seeing a rise in Knife and gun crime in the UK but it's mainly centered around London.

If ever Guns became legal to own by anyone in the UK i imagine the number of gun related deaths in robberies would shoot up and it'd just spiral out of control becoming more like the US.
