What my "Martial Arts" has taught me, is how to distinguish between those who know what they are talking about and those who clearly live in a fantasy 'La La Land'.
Clearly you've failed at that. I've been teaching martial arts in Detroit for a long time, and I know what works and what doesn't.

You credit yourself with more recognition than you're due.
The idea that 11/9 was an 'inside job' was never my idea, but there are 2,000 campaigners using that slogan in New York every day.

But here is my question, do you believe it was an inside job, and in what way? I REALLY would like to know, hit me up off-site if you want.

I apologize for mistaking you for some kind of idiot who could believe the US govt actually destroyed its own buildings. And just because there are 2000 (I doubt there's really anything near that number) 'campaigners' in NY who believe such a foolish notion doesn't prove a thing. I've been to NY many times, and believe me, you could round up 2000 people to say just about anything.
I've been teaching martial arts in Detroit for a long time, and I know what works and what doesn't.
So enlighten us.No problem! What would you like to learn?

Not that I believe in the consp. theory but why don't you think its possible for the government to do such things? Is it likely? Probablly not, but unless you know because you are on the in you can't be sure, and never will be. That is the nature of the conspiracy. It requires that one in the know leaks information with evidence to show others. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
It is the same in the martial arts. Instructors do not reveal all that they know to all students. Why? because a student must prove themselves worthy of the knowledge. Through actions not just words. I know too many things that can harm innocent people if my student is not worthy of the teaching. So far I have met 5 that I will gladly teach everything I know one of which is on this board (Dan) But I have had over 20,000 students in my 15 years of teaching.
Knife work is the same. To truly defend against the knife you must know the knife. You must be intimate with it, know its song, its philosophy, its stregnth as well as its weakness.
The knife is a great tool, but it is blind, it doesn't care who or what it cuts, its job is simply to cut, and it can and will cut its master if used carelessly.

So far I have met 5 that I will gladly teach everything I know one of which is on this board (Dan) But I have had over 20,000 students in my 15 years of teaching. Understood. But I would modify your statement to say, 'SOME instructors do not reveal all that they know to their students.'
I take a different approach with my students. I teach them ALL that I know, every little detail, every nasty trick, every hard-earned lesson, every weapon that they want to learn and that I am qualified to teach. Of course I teach them restraint, but if they misuse the knowledge, there's nothing I can do about it. They are adults and can make their own choices, and you can't be there to make sure they always make the right ones.
I mean seriously, who am I, who are you, to determine if someone if 'worthy' of learning the most they can to defend themselves? Once you've taught them the basics, they can use the knowledge nefariously if they so choose. Your not-so-favorite student can use the most basic punch to kill 'innocent people.'
We teach all manner of weapons (including firearms) in our style, with the emphasis on modern ones as opposed to some of the ancient ones you can't carry around with you. Also, if they want to learn something I'm NOT qualified to teach, I find someone who IS qualified and have them teach my student.
My instructors were the same way with me. No 'secrets' so great only the master and a few select disciples are allowed to know. To me, that smacks of ancient mysticism, or at best, elitist BS. I prefer to teach my students everything I can to give them the tools to survive in this dangerous world. I can't imagine not teaching my students, say, the Tazmanian Pinkie-Finger-Lock (because it's so deadly that only the great masters know its secret) when it could be a move that saves their life some day.
I HOPE that my students surpass me in ability and knowledge. I work towards that goal with each one of them. I give them the tools to learn and create new things in the martial arts, things that maybe I never even dreamed of. This helps the art grow and become more effective with each student who devotes themselves to it.

The knife is a great tool, but it is blind, it doesn't care who or what it cuts, its job is simply to cut, and it can and will cut its master if used carelessly.I agree completely. I carry a knife and a handgun with me at all times, and I practice with them as much or more than I do with my empty-hand techniques. I encourage my (adult) students to do the same.
Just as when you are empty-handed, the things you do with a weapon must be reflexive, having been practiced many thousands of times under all conceivable conditions and circumstances, but MOSTLY UNDER STRESS. They should consist of as few 'fine motor skills' and motions as possible - as you will lose all of that fine motor control in actual combat. Real training, with empty hands or with any sort of weapon, involves creative stress drills and applying the techniques and principles under various types of pressure. Anything less and you're just fooling yourself.

Doesn't it stir you heart with pride that democracy and 'freedom of speech' are being promoted in the US?

You been stabbed?
Been in a knife fight?

We may disagree on other things, but I think this is spot on.

I say instructor do not teach ALL they know to ALL of their students. Regardless of your intention a student will quit on you and you will not have taught them all that you know. Sematics I know but true non-the-less.
I take a different approach with my students. I teach them ALL that I know, every little detail, every nasty trick, every hard-earned lesson, every weapon that they want to learn and that I am qualified to teach. Who am I? I am the one legally responsible for the person's education in the martial arts. I AM the judge of their worth in that realm. And while I will teach the fundamentals to all I will not teach ALL that I know to just anyone, and the is MY right and my responsibility to society to keep the things I know with those that I JUDGE to be responsible to use them appropriately. You don't give a 2 year old a razor - and if you do then I can see you have no judgement - you give people the skills, knowledge and tools when they are ready. Not just becus they are an adult. Trust me you don't want me teaching just anyone ALL that I know especially if they might someday live near your neighborhood, not without some form of judgement.
The right to judge my students is that of being the INSTRUCTOR. I'm sorry but that simple statement from you is a sign of things wrong in the world. "What right do you have to say my child is a failure?" I've heard this asked by parents to school teachers in many subjects. What right? The right of being the subject matter expert for that school. The student is only a failure at progressing in that subject, not a failure in life. But today people are tooooooo touchy feely and hurt egos are being cushioned all over the place.
We teach all manner of weapons (including firearms) in our style, with the emphasis on modern ones as opposed to some of the ancient ones you can't carry around with you. Also, if they want to learn something I'm NOT qualified to teach, I find someone who IS qualified and have them teach my student.

So you have no problem with me teaching anyone and everyone of m y students how to make and IED? Do you want me teach just anyone the materials that allow an officer to be hit with his own TASER without ill effect? My martial arts and science are truly martial and some level of my knowledge can not be given away, not ALL are WORTHY.
I can't see teaching my children every method of countering a restraining hold, especially the holds that I teach teachers for dealing with unruley students (things that they can do without lawsuit) I don't want children knowing how to get out of them. Can they figure it out by themselves. Yes but often those that take the time to learn it themself are not the type that I have to worry about spreading it around their friends - those I know nothing about etc.
Is it elitest? NO it is RESPONSIBLE!
End of my Rant !
I HOPE that my students surpass me in ability and knowledge. I work towards that goal with each one of them. I give them the tools to learn and create new things in the martial arts, things that maybe I never even dreamed of. This helps the art grow and become more effective with each student who devotes themselves to it.
And I hope that my students will surpass me. In order to do so they will demonstrate Honor, Courage, and Commitment. And those that do this will eventually be judged to learn all that I know, and referred to my betters when they surpass me. (and believe me it has happened)
