Sword Fighting 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I recently saw an advertisment for some weapons practice near where i live. It looks like training in Short/Broad swords, staves and other European Medieval type weaponary.

Has anyone had any experience with this and if so was it worth it?

I'd just love to learn the short sword

No but I imagine it would be fun.

I myself have stuck with the Katana for now but I would give the short sword a go if I had a chance!!

Most of my weapons training is related more to sticks. Sounds like fun though.

I am more inclined to use the bigger claymore swords, however the short sword is definatly good to try and is a good sword to train with and experience.

So I would say go for it!

It can only add to your skills and you might only lose an arm or finger. Just joking.

No harm in giving it a go.

I have more experience in bikenjutsu (kenjutsu) but i think it would be a lot of fun. A lot of hard work though. Those medieval swords are heavy

I did a short course on swords and some of those were short swords and scimitars. Funner to pratice and fight with, but less practical then the traditional katana. Also highly amusing when using a jagged short blade disarming a katana-wielder by simply crossing blades.

Exlore everything, it's all good.

Hi all,

I posted the flyer, so I guess I should introduce myself

I am the instructor for Schola Gladiatoria's newest chapter in Bradford. We focus on the european longsword in the Leichtenauer tradition, dating from the 14th through 17th centuries.

Our website is at wwww.swordfightbradford.com where you can find out more about us and Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) in general. Many people are surprised to find out that Europe has its own martial heritage at all, let alone a rich and varied tapestry of different styles.

P.S. normaengage: I hear that about medieval swords all the time, fact is, if a longsword goes above about 1.5kg, something has gone horribly wrong at the forge
