Ive got John Clements on board with the content side of things here with Classical fencing.


Basically, John and a team of academics have gone through medieval manuscripts and other historial records to piece together fencing techniques of old.


Look out for articles by John on the site, ill be putting alot more content up once the shop development is finished.

I used to do fencing before excess schoolwork forced me to stop. But what I learned really did help-the footwork is great, and lunging practice ending up helping me throw punches too. It was also a lot of fun!

John stuff is pretty good but please remember that we're dealing with documents hundreds of years old. There area lot of different ways to interpret the same statement.

Another group of people worth chatting to are Schola Galdiatoria who focus on the teachings of Fiore, an Itallian, and also HEMAC who are a European based group of academics at the cutting edge of Historical European Martial Arts research.

Is it expensive to start fencing? I though about trying it but is it a case of buying all your own gear before you try it? Or do the clubs provide beginner gear?

It depends what form of fencing you're talking about and which club you go to. But most clubs in most styles will have some beginner equipment - I've never heard of a club that expected new people to turn up equipped. My new guys don't need anything to start.
