Pressure point fighting is sort of kept in the shade.
i know that for pressure to work, meaning that they can make your legs bend and stuff, you have to believe that they work.
if you know that it is all bull, then you won't be effected by them, like me.
but there are some pressure points that do work, like giving someone a dead arm, knock out pressure points around the jaw.
also it would be hard to hit pressure points whilst fighting because pressure points are the size of pin head apparently.
what are your views on pressure point fighting?

Son, you and i need to meet if you think pressure points don't actually work. Anatomincal targeting is partially a matter of accuracy, but also understanding anatomy. Pressure points may be small, but there are more pressure point on your body than there are bones. It is actually very easy to find them if you know what you are doing. I gaurantee a couple shots to your common peroneal nerve or brachial plexus, and you are going to have a bad day.

I agree! I regularly have tui na, which is essentially pressure point massage. It really works and basically stopped me having to quit training- pressure points being worked for the good I think my friend who does them knows very bad things to do with them too, so I try not to anger him
no, i know that there are pressure points that give you a bad day because they are linked through are reflex arc, like hitting someone on the neck, that will disable then, under the arm, that is a sensitive area, not forgetting the area that all men defend, that will also have a greater effect because it is like a pressure point.
most of my friends hate havng their pressure points poked (not their nuts, i don't touch their area) but me and one other, they don't work, the thing that should make my legs bend, doesn't work for me and james,

those pressure points that your massage person does, should be the same as the ones that fighting styles. they are all linked back to the spine, then to the brain so they have to pass each other and there is where the point is. when people do try pressure points on me, they hurt, i can feel that that area is more sensitive, but they don't make my arm move up or down or make my feet wobble.

I don't know much about pressure points for fighting; but from acupressure studies, I know - and have seen people curled up in a ball with pain from pressure applied a certain way to points - and that's without any actual physical force applied to the touch!
Everyone's going to be sensitive to the points in a particular way, and the extent of intent and knowledge - including anatomical knowledge would make a huge difference.

I'd be happy to. First off, all motor points are pressure points, but not all pressure point are motor points. Pressure poins can be found all over and mostly consist of areas where you can apply painful pressure to muscles, muscle-like fibers (tendons, etc), veins and arteries, and nerves. When we start talkg motor points, we are in fact talking about specific nerve centers.
The main difference between motor points and pressure points is that pressure points rely on pain compliance due to constant or dynamic pressure. Motor points do not.
This nerve plexus has its origin at the stem of the brain and is responsible for all the nerve signals that run to your arm. If you think of it as a tree, then the brachial plexus is the trunk, the suprascupular, radial, ulnar, and median nerves are all brances. You can attack each of these brances for pain compliance, but if you attack the nerves plexus proper, you can short out the entire network for a few seconds. My personal favorite applications are to strike where the plexus ties in to the shoulder joint (leaving the arm temporarily paralyzed), and to attack it at the origin proper. A strike to the Brachial Origin is enough to make your average person completely drop to the ground, and it will be a few minutes before they are back to normal.
Here is an example caught on TV of a martial arts instructor who teaches police defense tactics dealing with a pimp abosing one of his hookers.

For the record, I've never knocked someone out using this technique before, but I've also never wanted to. I've used it for demonstrations in the classroom, but I'm very careful with it. Even a simple slap with intent behind it will make you see stars.
