"Owner and Head Instructor, Master Jim Wood is founder of the style, YI-DAN CHA GI Karate, certified by The International Martial Arts Council.

Master Wood, now certified Soke', by The International Martial Arts Council has recognized Jim Woods' style, YI-DAN CHA GI Karate.  He was awarded and the style certified in St. Louis, MO. in July of 2006.

YI-DAN CHA GI Karate has evolved of 25 years of training for Soke' Wood and includes a variety of martial art forms including Master Woods' unique and diversified techniques.

In January of ""2008"", Wood was inducted into The Action Martial Arts Magazines ""Hall of Honors"" and awarded for ""Excellence in Teaching"".  Also in January 08, Master Wood was promoted to 8th Degree Black Belt in YI-DAN CHA GI Karate Under The Authority of: YAMAKAI HONBU

In 2006, Soke' Wood also completed his training in Defensive Tactics with Fred T. Mastison, President of Force Options and was awarded  Certified Master Instructor of Defensive Tactics with the ability to instruct law-enforcement and military. 

The Certified Professional Martial Artist status was awarded to Master Wood in 1994 by the founder of The United Fighting Arts Federation, Master Chuck Norris.

Master Wood, recently holds ranks of:
8th Degree Black Belt in YI-DAN CHA GI Karate
6th Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do
5th Degree Black Belt in Chun Kuk Do.

In 2003, he was inducted into The United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame, whose founder is Professor Marty Cale and Chief  Director, Doctor Dan Netherland.
In ""2004"" he was awarded International Martial Arts Council, ""Master of The Year"" at The Hall of Fame.

Also in Nov. of 2004,  Master Wood was inducted into The U.S.A International Black Belt Hall of Fame as Martial Artist of The Year.

In 2005, The International Martial Arts Council awarded Master Woods' Karate Studio as ""School of The Year"" at The U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Currently, Master Wood owns and is head instructor of YI-DAN CHA GI Martial Arts Center where he holds classes for adults and children.


Master Wood also  is Co-Founder of The Defend And Survive Program, Inc. which is a not-for-profit organization which concentrates on Bully Conflict and Stranger Awareness for school age children.

He also schedules seminars for Defensive Tactics instruction to train capable personnel in police departments and businesses with the need.  A civilian course in Defensive Tactics is also available for men, ages 18 and up.


In addition to his many awards, New York State Senator Mary Lou Rath introduced a resolution on Wood's behalf in Albany.  The resolution was passed by the state for his standard of excellence in all his endeavors and his community involvement."
