Instructor Details

My Qualifications: Lvl 2 Instructor in Chu sau lei Wing Chun. Instructor with TJ Wing Chun, Blue Belt Gracie Barra BJJ.
My Background: Alex started Martial Arts with ITF style Tae Kwon Do competing in area championships etc then switched to Western Boxing and Wing Chun 2 years later. Alex trained with Sifu Trevor Jefferson on and off for around 10 years attaining an instructor certification in TJ Wing Chun in 2002 although never instructed under this Association.

Started training in general mixed martial arts in 2002 and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Dave 'Speedy' Elliot in 2003 attaining a Gracie Barra blue belt from Mauricio Gomez a year later. Alex has since competed and won in Goshyn Ryu MMA, Pride & Glory MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Submission wrestling and Judo.

In Early 2005 Alex met Sifu Alan Orr and decided to train in the Chu Sau Lei Wing Chun System and after training hard to adjust to the new system gained an instructors grade. Since this time Alex has travelled to the USA to train with Si Gung Dr Robert Chu, trained MMA with Sensei Eddy Mills of the famous Shark Tank in L.A (where he gained a phase 2 blue belt in the Shark Tank MMA system)

Alex continues to train in BJJ with Pete Irving & Dave Harewood and Wrestling with Brian Moore of the Bear Pitt MMA group alongside continuing his Wing Chun & grappling training under Sifu Alan Orr.

Date Started Teaching: 01-09-05
About My School: The Class
Cyclone Wing Chun takes a modern approach to its training and certainly is very influenced by modern Mixed Martial Art training. Someone walking in halfway could be forgiven for thinking they had come to an MMA club not a traditional martial arts club. However we believe Wing Chun to be a vibrant martial art with the ability to adapt and to move with the times. However we are still very much a Wing Chun club utilising all the methods associated with the style such as the open hand forms, wooden man training, sensitivity drills etc. We also use pad work, clinch drills, tool sparring drills and free sparring.

The Chu Sau Lei System
Not all Wing Chun is the same just as not all Karate or Boxing is the same. The Chu Sau Lei system is underpined by a strong adherance to correct body structure that is first learned in the form and then built upon by use of various drills. Every technique and application must have its foundation in this.
