Yeah head down with exams at the moment which is really really frustrating my training, but hell in 3 weeks I can do it as much as I want so I guess head down for last bit. Yeah have a great holiday fella - remember those internet cafes for 3 euros an hour ;-) but dont be getting into trouble with family!!!

Hello Tony. I sometimes train at Chris Beanland's club (although a bit lapsed recently) and I'm just trying to place you.

I'm hoping to come over to train this week or next week so if you happen to spot me, pop over and say hello!

Firstly I think the pen and T-shirt example is a good one, I have felt this frustration at times where you feel you cannot strike for fear of hurting the child, so you try to be defensive and before you know it you have been punched on the nose and kicked in the head. Kids are naturally very quick and unpredictable. If your guard is down with a street situation becuase you feel superior physically or if you think you can reason with a child/teenager who is in your face then you are in serious danger already. Add to this mob mentallity, the kudos of violent acts, a strong need to belong to what is essentially a brotherhood and the danger becomes highly condensed. You make a very good point about girl gangs being equally dangerous, it is well documented that they have murdered and destroyed lives also, something that strikes me is that these gang members will be attracted members of male gangs, any offspring that are born into this mindset are surely a big threat to any possible solution to the problem. If parents are cuaght up in violent gangs which are becoming harder to escape from once involved in, their children will grow up thinking what they see is normal and acceptable.
Going back to the forums pre-article discusssion, we can teach our own children to be descent but others are still a threat, I think our responsibillity is to our own, we need to teach our children to run at the signs of violence, as we know this is rarely possible with a mob situation therefore the more reallistic training we can offer the children the better, if it bacomes my kids or a predator then who cares what becomes of the predator. Disable them and run. Very good article.
