Iaido? Is that Swords?

End of year is always fun - biggest issue for us att he moment is just ensuring the Colleges and Work Experience providers get paid next month as responsibilty hands over - then its the fun of educating the Local Authority about their responsibility in regards Apprenticeships and Skills - fun, fun, fun.

You know that old curse, may your life be interesting - its true!

Not bad is the short answer, they are shutting my company down and i am being TUPE'd to the Local Authority - which overall is a good thing, especially as its a job and more to the point one i will enjoy. The downside is the work involved in shutting a public sector organisation down and ensuring all the work is moved somewhere so nothing is forgotten.

The downside is between that and the kids Karate has only been 3-4 times a month so going slowly (1/2 way through 3rd Grading at the moment.

But overall enjoying it so thats good.

How's life with you?

Happy new year to you too.

I been really busy, I've moved twice been homeless and got myself a new Filipina (lost a stone in weight since she moved in) I'm saving to get to the Philippines and from there I'm only a hop skip and a jump away from you.

Domo Arigato gazimashita

My club's doing well I graded my students last Monday all passed but one teenager dropped from adult syllabus to Junior Syllabus. Less pressure on him etc.

Instructor Details

My Qualifications: I speak Japanese well enough and my karate is good enough to act as an assistant instructor in the Koga Dojo, Saga City, Japan.

In terms of qualifications in this style I am a 1st dan in both Wado Ryu and Zenkuren karate currently training for a Wado Ryu 2nd dan.
My Background: I trained in TKD for 2 and a half years as a kid. Don't remember the grade I got to but it did help build some core flexibility.

In high school I trained with a questionable karate style to 3rd kyu which built up my core strength and interest.

At university I trained in ITF TKD and got my 1st dan. I acted as an assistant instructor there and loved the club but unfortunately had to move.

I now train in Wado Ryu Karate Do Jujutsu Kempo and was awarded my 1st dan by Supreme Master Otsuka II in October 2008.

In October 2009 I was recognized by all styles in the Zen Nihon Karate Do Renmei and thus am a black belt recognized by all Wado, Shotokan, Goju and Shito styles.
Date Started Teaching: 17-10-08
About My School: Koga Eigo Dojo
Wado Ryu Karate Do Jujutsu Kempo Dojo

I am merely a student that is used as an assistant instructor when needs must. The dojo was founded by Koga Takeo Sensei (7th dan, 28/3/1950 - 17/3/2008) who was like a father to me after I moved to Japan. It is now run by Koga Daiji Sensei (3rd dan). The dojo is a center for internationalization that has connections with several projects over the world through the Terra People Association. The dojo also has an English school attached called the Yumei no Gakko (dream school) which not only expands young children horizons by teaching them English but also give them the opportunity to practice karate to keep physically and mentally fit as they grow up (there is a special class for these children and we hope they will one day be able to join the main class). This school was Koga Takeo Sensei's dream and we all fight to keep it alive both in the literal sense and the figurative sense.

Our dojo-kun is "Tsuyoku, yasashiku, yasashiku, tsuyoku" (be strong, be kind hearted, be kind hearted, be strong).

Christianity and martial arts should have zero connection. I am sorry you had to read through this dross Lesley. Its a shame that someone who was successful decided to ruin his mind then proceed to attempt to involuntarily infect people with his dogma based belief system. Real martial artists don't want to be tricked into reading about religion in the same way that Psychologists don't want to be tricked into reading about the practical applications of Phrenology.

Title article: Karate on the ground

That was an interesting article mate. A judo guy tried to school me about how good judo is on the ground and asked me to try and defend myself from a position I would otherwise never be in. My thought as he lunged at me was that his face was totally exposed and I could easily attack it using any of the nasty strikes I have been taught to essentially blind my opponent. I didnt hit him of course and let him keep talking about how judo is better than karate whilst smiling an nodding (and not really caring). In a real fight, there are no rules so we are free to use our full range of attacks.
