The Martial Edge Editorial Blog July 20th

Martial Arts Shop

Well guys and gals its ten days until the launch of the Martial Edge online store. Let me tell you things are really moving behind the scenes in order to meet the deadline. As discussed in previous blog entries great care has been taken to ensure that we listened to what you guys had to say about online shopping with regards martial arts merchandise and to be honest we have nailed it. The store will offer a secure and safe shopping experience in an aesthetically pleasing format. The launch will be on the 1 August - we will do some sort of competition to coincide with the launch.

Martial Arts Forum

What can I say another awesome week in the forums! Friday had to be a record where 17 new users logged in and registered Martial Edge profiles. Fantastic stuff. Also the two new topic areas have gone down a treat especially the political, social, and cultural thread that allows users - me included - to vent frustration and discuss events that are going on around the world. So the word is clearly spreading and the Martial Edge team are pleased with how the forums are diversifying.

General Martial Edge News

To coincide with the release of the new Batman film we will be running an interview with the guys behind the fight co ordination. Andy Norman of the Kesyi fighting method will be talking exclusively to Martial Edge on what it was like training up Christian Bale to pull off the moves in front of the camera! So stay tuned for that one.

Last Tuesday I made the trip over to Huddersfield to meet with the elder statesman of the UK martial arts scene, Bob Sykes. Bob has been the editor of Martial Arts Illustrated for since conception twenty years ago and as a young kid I grew up on the magazine. Apart from been an honour to meet Bob and the rest of the Martial Arts Illustrated team it was also a productive meeting. Through Martial Edge we will be setting up a author profiles for both the Magazine and Bob to showcase features. Another bonus will be that from October you can read a monthly column by your very one Martial Edge editor - me! So lots to look forward there over the coming weeks so make sure you keep logging on to check out the site and of course the forums.

General Martial Edge news

Apologies to those of you who have been experiencing technical difficulties with certain aspects of the site. Unfortunately every internet explorer works differently which means it is incredibly difficult to get the site looking perfect in every browser! However, big thanks to those of you that have been reporting these problems to our team in the forums and hopefully we can have these issues fixed soon.

The Martial Arts Shop that we have been working away on for the past two months is finally looking pretty darn good if I do say so myself! By the end of next week the shop will be finished leaving us with one clear week to test before it goes live. Hopefully if supported it will mean we can continue to grow and develop the site even further.

Martial Arts Forums

I have added two new topic areas as they are starting to grow really well and the demand is certainly there to add new areas for discussion. These are,

Weapons - Okinawan, Japanese, Chinese, etc.

Political, Social, and Cultural Dimensions.

Anyway keep the suggestions coming on this front as our ambition is really to make the forums a place at the forefront of MA discussion! And if you are a  member of the site and have not already introduced yourself then do so.

As always you can catch me and the rest of the Martial Edge Team in the forums.
