Job Summary:

We are looking for someone to fill the role of lead developer for MartialEdge.net the world’s fastest growing online martial arts community. We are a small but fast-growing business and as such the decision on choosing a candidate for this position will not only be based on technical expertise, but also the candidates range of inter-personal skills which will include being:

1) Passionate and enthusiastic about web development and able to think “outside the box”.
2) A great communicator and team-player, having the ability to communicate well with all members of the team (on a non-technical level if necessary)
3) An excellent problem-solver who likes a challenge and adopts a “CAN DO” attitude over a “Computer Says No” attitude!
4) Creative, and comfortable with presenting different opinions, concepts, ideas and solutions to the rest of the team, unprompted.

We also have the following technical requirements:

1) Extensive knowledge of PHP, and database manipulation languages
2) Experience and thorough understanding of AJAX
3) Experience and thorough understanding of CSS
4) Specific knowledge on the open source CMS platform “Joomla”. The candidate must have practical experience of both installing Joomla-based web solutions but also have hands-on experience with the intricacies of creating bespoke Joomla modules, plug-ins, and components (which will be one of the core day-to-day requirements of this role).
5) Understanding of current white-hat SEO techniques and desire to stay informed of such techniques as the web industry changes/adapts.
6) Advanced experience with graphics is not required however a basic understanding is required along with basic understand of common graphical packages such as Photoshop and Flash.
7) Understanding of the current growing web 2.0 new media platforms (such as Facebook and Youtube) and willingness to learn the APIs of such platforms where necessary.

Salary is up for negotiation, but will most likely range between 18-22k. The role will be 9-5 and will be office based in Leeds. We will consider university graduates and during the run up to graduation we are flexible on terms and can facilitate a position on a more flexible basis until the candidate has finished their final year of study and is ready to work full time.
