Selections took place at the immaculate ‘Lee Matthews Black Belt Academy’ at Telford, Cheshire. It has been along while since I have witnessed talent of this magnitude, showing just how popular Combat32 is becoming amongst the fighting elite. With over 20 athletes selected to attend and with only 16 places up for grabs it was always going to be a difficult day for the newly appointed GB coach, Chris ‘The Fly’ Williams.

As usual it was extremely tough to down-select the final 20 to attend the selections from the open online registration form, even more so with SeriesII attracting over 90 registered competitors. The selection process is a thorough one where the ‘C32 Fighter Select Committee’ make it as fair and as transparent as possible. The criteria being examined is that of experience, style, age, weight and pure talent. We have many scouts on the open circuits including TaeKwon-Do, Karate, Freestyle and Kickboxing to keep an eye out for any prospective competitors and to watch any fighters registered through the site, so rest assure your application to compete is treated with the up-most consideration.
After a gruelling 90 minute work-out the competitors started to realise that Combat32 is no joke affair and that conditioning of the highest calibre will be an absolute requirement. The coach decided to focus on six key training elements that best reflected the style of fighting Combat32 was designed to showcase, these being strength, power, endurance, stamina, technical skill and timing.
It was an hard choice but one that had to be made, congratulations to the following athletes that have been chosen to represent their country at the forthcoming SERIES II international championships to be held at Disney Land, Paris on the evening of the 27th September 2008 :
Combat 32
Combat 32 is an open style Martial Arts tournament displaying some of the best fighters currently around in Britain today. Lesley Jackson is hooked by the display of talent fighting in the competition and wonders when they will introduce a female division, so she can have a go herself!
Robbie ‘Lion Heart’ Hughes, Jamie ‘Ruff Neck’ Goulding, 2Fast4U, Owen ‘Predator’ King, Shredder, Mr TKD, Blacka, Newton Lowndes, Nigel Harvey, Gareth Mostyn, Sean McCarthy, Paul Gilmore, Carl Swaby, The Hammer, Andy Cleeves, Mark Deacon and last but not least the defending champion himself, Michael ‘Venom’ Page.
My thoughts exactly, what a line-up. Them Europeans had better watch out the GB boys are in full affect and mean business. Good luck to all, the excitement is already starting to build.
