At Bob Sykes Colne Valley Blackbelt Academy on the 14th September Martial Edge met up with Andy Norman, Co - founder of Keysi Fighting method (KFM) to learn more about the fighting system that is not only taking the Hollywood Studios by storm but the global martial arts community. Check out some exclusive pictures of the event.
Jason and I were invited over by Bob Sykes (Editor of Martial Arts Illustrated) to interview co founder of the Keysi Fighting Method (KFM), but on entering the training hall we got more then we bargained for when we were promptly told by Bob to get stuck in and join in on the seminar.
At this point the only experience of Keysi both Jason and I had was either watching it on the big screen – as it is Batmans choice of Fighting style - or watching clips on youtube.
It was a complete fighting system that really made you go wow, I want to train in this. - Pete Mills
The seminar ran from 2-6 and it gave complete novices in Keysi like myself and Jason to become familiar with the basic foundations of Keysi very quickly. The day was structured to introduce you to Keysi, its basic moves and throughout the seminar Andy introduced techniques of increasing difficulty to challenge the more experienced Keysi student and of course to really open up to the novice the diversity and indeed challenges the training has to offer.
I have worked with many martial artists from various styles but what impressed me about Keysi was it wasn’t a Karate instructor bolting on self defence techniques or a reality based self defence instructor saying this is how it is on the street.
Here are some pictures from the event:
Andy Norman of Keysi Fighting Method watches over as the students get to grips with the technical aspects of Keysi groundfighting.
Although the day was intensive, Andy made sure everyone had regular breaks to chat about training and the principles of Keysi.
Just to highlight the popularity of the seminar, a group picture was in order at the end of the event! Although it was struggle to get everyone in the picture.
At the end of the Keysi Seminar, Martial Edge got exclusive access to Andy Norman for an insightful interview. More of which can be read here.
